Some cool tips here.

I've just started getting into guest posting as my blogs not that old. For the posts I have written for others, I've always tried to write for their site not mine but made sure my writing style and flavour in to it.

Steit, you said right at the end about not being put off if your post is turned down. Do you think that a guest blogger can reuse a rejected post?

Steit,

I love the article as all five points you make are very crucial. I have been publishing guest posts on WeBlogBetter.com. Guest posts are a crucial thing when not only promoting your blog but getting a feel of what you really want to write about and how you are going to diversify yourself and/or your blog.

Additionally, I feel that it help connecting with the person first so they get a feeling of what your personal opinions are in general and would more likely accept your guest posts. But, this gets hard with blogs that receive many guest post requests since their blog generates large amount of traffic.

I do have one question? What would be your advice on attracting people to write guest posts? (could this be another article to the "guest post series"?)

Best Regards,
Derek

@james, thanks for your comment! You should be guest posting, seriously! Regarding the rights of the article, it's an agreement between the writer and the host blogger, but in most of the cases, the host blogger retains the rights of the article and the content should be unique!

This is a very important point that I missed, Thanks a lot for raising it James!

Best,
Steit

These are some good tips. I've been meaning to write some guest posts, i'm just trying to narrow down the topics to be applicable to the audience at each blog.

One thing I am unsure of is who retains the rights to the article?

Cool article. Personally, when I write guest posts I try and imagine it's an article for my blog. After all, you're writing the article to attract new visitors, but if they come to your site to see your writing is completely different to that in the article, they'll feel hard done by and maybe even cheated.

Like you've said in your post... just be yourself!
