The countdown has started and 2010 is less than 2 weeks away. It is at this time of the year where everyone shares what they have achieved in the past 12 months, what they have learned, and what their goals are for the coming year.
The learning curve in 2009 was amazing and I have really learned a lot and I will be sharing the most important lessons which I learned within this year.
1- Commitment
As some of you may know, I started a blog in December 2008 called Weblist and at the moment that blog is sort of on hold! I did great at the beginning but, I didn’t commit towards it, I didn’t post regularly and I killed it myself! Commitment towards your blog is a key point in taking it to the next level.
2- Patience
Only miracles happen in seconds! If you want to build a proper blog, and have it generate a full time income for you, it needs time! As mentioned in an earlier article on SteitBlog, to have a montizable blog you need to forget about the money during the first phase and be patient and concentrate on building a proper reader base.
3- Focusing
This lesson applies to different areas. I have learned to focus on a certain topic and talk about it on my blog instead of talking about different irrelevant topics. At the same time, focusing while writing is a very difficult task for me, and I have been working on it for a long time. I easily get distracted while writing. So if you dedicate 2 hours for your blog and nothing more trust me you will be achieving your goals effortlessly.
4- Socializing
You might have read my previous article which talks about SteitBlog’s first month performance and the reason behind all of these great results which is socializing. You should socialize and engage with your readers, talk to them and let them know the real YOU!
5- Collaboration
When it comes to team work and collaboration, trust me 1+1 equals 3! Yeah, with your efforts and others’ combined together, you will be achieving WAY more than what you would achieve by yourself. That is not because of the knowledge or experience they have over yours, but you will be finding others motivating you as well.
6- Objectives
I know a lot of people who start their blogs without setting any objectives or goals to achieve in a certain time frame, that really kills a blog and the blogger as well. You should set yourself SMART objectives for the purpose of guiding yourself into where you want your blog to go and take you.

December 20, 2009 at 3:45 amSteit,
All of your points are very valid and I would have to agree with them while getting my blog going and still going.
I feel that focusing and having patience are two key items that need their full attention to, because I feel these would all effect one’s motivation. Once a blogger loses motivation they tend to kill their blog or try again later. I and many other bloggers (if not everyone) knows that having a blog well established on the web (rather than a new one) is much more beneficial.
I, like you, am looking forward to the next year!
Best Regards,
Derek

December 21, 2009 at 7:07 pmYou have obviously learned a lot this year. Most people never learn that stuff.
For me, the problem is that I already know the stuff, but I don’t follow the “rules”. I just do whatever I have been doing.
But after reading “The four-hour work week”, things started happening. It was a lot easier to focus, and do all the “right” stuff.
Now, I’m thinking about buying “Time management on crack” since I’ve heard a lot of good things about it.
